“Electromobility is the disruptive megatrend in our core segment, the automotive industry. We are working closely with our suppliers to develop new products,” explains Martin Umbach, Managing Director, Biesterfeld Plastic.
“This market segment poses wide-ranging challenges, with topics like electric heating systems, overvoltage protection and brake energy regeneration dominating technical discussions and developments.”
As an example, the e-mobility portfolio includes Zytel polyamides by DuPont. These ‘electrically friendly’ materials with 15%, 25% or 30% glass fibre content for PA66 and a PA6 with 30% glass fibre reinforcement are specifically designed to prevent contact corrosion, which can cause electrical component failure. The new materials thus ensure reliable performance of electrical and electronic automotive components throughout their service life. The e-mobility portfolio also includes other specialised products, such as hydrolysis-resistant Crastin PBT types.
“We are already able to offer our customers a wide range of plastics and additives for e-mobility applications. These high-performance raw materials meet all current requirements in this up-and-coming sector,” adds Dietmar Zinkand, Business Manager Engineering Polymers at Biesterfeld Plastic.
“Biesterfeld Plastic is focussing in particular on customised developments of products and solutions. Due to the rapid pace of development, standards have not yet been established in this still young industry.”
