Biesterfeld Plastic will distribute sulfone polymers, manufactured by Solvay, in Switzerland beginning in January 2019, following the extension of their mutual distribution agreement. The product portfolio includes the Udel PSU, Radel PPSU and Veradel PESU brands. These products has been selling by Biesterfeld in many areas of Europe since 1998. Udel PSU (polysulfone) is a tough, rigid, high-strength, transparent plastic that offers higher heat resistance and better hydrolytic stability than polycarbonate (PC). It retains its good mechanical properties when exposed to steam and other sterilization techniques. PSU is widely used in plumbing fittings, valves and other components in pressurized hot-water systems, as well as in medical devices that must be durable, non-toxic, transparent and highly break-resistant.
Radel PPSU (polyphenylsulfone) has better impact strength and chemical resistance than PSU and polyetherimide (PEI). Its high heat resistance and exceptional hydrolytic stability make this product ideal for even the most demanding pressurized hot-water system components and medical devices that need to undergo repeated steam sterilization.
Veradel PESU (polyethersulfone) combines good chemical resistance, stiffness, mechanical strength, and high continuous-use temperatures, making it ideal for food service applications. Its flame-retardant properties also makes this plastic suitable for use in electronic components such as for vehicle lighting and in test equipment.
Alongside Solvay's sulfone polymers, Biesterfeld Plastic sells Ryton PPS (polyphenylene sulphide), also manufactured by Solvay, across the whole of Europe except Italy. This product offers exceptional dimensional stability for precision-molded components needing long-term heat resistance up to 200°C and short-term heat resistance up to 260°C. Ryton PPS compounds are resistant to a wide variety of solvents and fulfill the requirements of UL94 V-0 without flame retardant additives.
"We are pleased to see this extension and positive development in our distribution partnership", said Nils Müller, Product Manager Engineering Thermoplastics, Biesterfeld Plastic. "It now enables us to offer customer-orientated sulfone polymer solutions in the Swiss market, and meet our customers' requirements even more effectively by expanding our portfolio in this country."
"Biesterfeld is an established, reliable partner which is working with us to create the best possible framework for extending our brand coverage in Europe", said Andreas Savvides, Channel Partners Manager, Solvay Specialty Polymers. "We are pleased that it has been possible to extend our commercial relationship with the company."
