Advanced aesthetics, best-in-class organoleptics, faster production, and energy- and weight-reducing advantages are among the unique capabilities Borealis will showcase to Plast ’09 visitors during the fourday tri-annual event in Milan.
Borealis, a leading provider of innovative, value creating plastics solutions, will demonstrate the superior performance and processing benefits offered by the latest film and moulding grade additions to its pioneering ranges of polyolefins for the pharmaceutical, food packaging and white goods industries.
Among the materials making their tradeshow debut will be new Borpure high density polyethylene (HDPE) grades MB6561, MB6562 and MB7541 for the caps and closures market. In addition to fulfilling packaging industry demands for increased cycle speeds and outstanding food and drink preservation through retention of natural odour and taste, the Borpure HDPE materials maintain high-level environmental stress cracking resistance (ESCR) and a stiffness/impact balance that allows lower weight finished caps to be produced.
For the white goods sector, Borealis will unveil the first polypropylene (PP) capable of matching the glossy aesthetics of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) plastic polymers – the traditional material of choice for control panels, front draws and baseboards found on washing machines, dishwashers and spin dryers. New Borcom BG055AI offers a 6% reduction in cycle time and lower machine weight, benefiting the environment and manufacturing costs through reduced energy consumption.
Film converters can look forward to a new addition to the Bormed family for PP cast films. Bormed RE806CF offers outstanding purity and very high transparency, even after sterilization, making it ideally suited to the food and medical packaging markets. Moulding products complete the total Bormed product range.
The new grades will be showcased alongside other high performing PP and PE solutions for the packaging sector. These include Borealis’ Blow Fill and Seal (BFS) solutions for pharmaceutical bottles and ampoules which have recently been re-launched due to the strong customer demand for continued availability; Borclear RB707CF and Borpact grades such as BC918CF show superior softness, optical properties and easy-seal benefits for transparent packaging films, MAP trays, stand-up pouches and label films; and samples of the new Borstar grade RJ900MO PP for thin-wall containers.
Visitors to Plast ’09 can learn how Borealis’ on-going investment in advanced processing technologies, such as Borstar, and in the expansion of its manufacturing and innovation capabilities with new PP capacity at Burghausen, Germany and a new international Innovation Headquarters in Linz, Austria, is extending the use of polyolefins in cutting-edge applications.
- Borealis’ commitment to enhancing the capability of its PP and PE product portfolio is delivering customer-oriented solutions that bring a step change in manufacturing possibilities and add real value where it is most needed. The innovation-driven pharmaceutical, food packaging and white goods sectors are always keen to push the boundaries in terms of design and functionality - comments Lorenzo Delorenzi, Executive Vice President, Polyolefins, Borealis. - Our Moulding and Film and Fibre Business Units are looking forward to showing Plast ’09 visitors how our latest solutions can help them to achieve this while also meeting the environmental and cost-efficiency targets demanded today.
