Clariant says the deal will allow it to expand primarily in two areas – process catalysts and absorbent agents.
The deal was first announced in March, when Clariant CEO Haroilf Kottmann said in a statement: “Süd-Chemie is the right strategic fit for Clariant. It complements our portfolio with high growth businesses, less cyclicality and it provides Clariant access to new attractive market segments. Süd-Chemie will further drive our profitable growth forward in the coming year."
One Equity Partners previously held 50.4% of the shares, while the family shareholders had 46%. The majority of the Süd-Chemie family shareholders swapped shares into Clariant shares at a ratio of 1:8.84.
For the 2010 financial year, Clariant sales totalled CHF7.1bn (€4.5bn), compared to CHF6.6bn (€5bn) in 2009.
