Composites: Shaping the Future of Low Carbon Construction. JEC in Paris

Composites: Shaping the Future…

On March 4, 2024, as a preview to the JEC World trade show, JEC, an organization dedicated to the promotion of composite materials and the development of their applications worldwide, is organizing a unique event on the theme of “Composites: Shaping the Future of Low Carbon Construction”. Targeted at professionals in the construction and infrastructure sectors globally, this event aims to showcase the advantages of composite materials and their diverse applications to reduce the environmental impact of construction. This will be achieved through the presentation of numerous recent and emblematic projects.

Composite materials, unique solutions to construction challenges

The World Economic Forum estimates that by 2030, 3 billion people will need access to adequate, affordable housing. Additionally, in the field of infrastructure, many bridges and tunnels require significant repairs, two aspects for which composites offer sustainable alternatives to professionals. Indeed, their intrinsic benefits, the best-known being lightweight design, ease of transport, strength, low maintenance costs, and durability, can address the challenges of construction, renovation, and civil engineering.

The recent introduction of composite-related building codes in the United States, coupled with similar measures underway in Europe, now provides architects and structural engineers with clear guidelines for the use of composite materials in both exterior and interior building structures.

These opportunities are accompanied by a growing focus on all aspects of composites-related sustainability. So, whether in conventional construction or off-site, the composites industry is taking a proactive approach to sustainability challenges, reducing its environmental impacts throughout the value chain.

A varied and comprehensive program

Organized over half a day, this event will feature presentations by architects, project owners, and manufacturers/companies utilizing composites from around the world. It will be divided into several segments, allowing for a genuine sharing of experiences:

Two round tables:

  • The challenge of reducing CO2 emissions: advantages of composites in construction
  • The opportunity of standards: new standards and their consequences (Eurocodes, American standards…)

Various workshops:

  • Where composites have played a key role in reducing the impact of CO2 emissions
  • Composites for architecture
  • Composites for civil engineering
  • Composites and technical challenges
  • The event will conclude with exchanges between stakeholders in the building/composite materials sectors during a cocktail dinner.

This event is hosted by the editorial team of Construction Europe, Groupe KHL.
