Coperion: large order for 100 million euros

Coperion: large order for… Coperion GmbH, Stuttgart/Germany, landed the biggest single contract in the company's history with a volume of 100 million Euros in the fourth quarter of 2010.

The company was contracted by Borouge, a Joint Venture between the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and Borealis, to build the entire materials handling systems for the third expansion stage of a large scale plant for the production of polyolefin in Ruwais, United Arab Emirates. With this investment project, Borouge expands its production capacity in the polyolefin production by approximately another 2 million tons per annum to a total of 4.5 million tons per annum. The new plants in Ruwais include two production lines each for the manufacture of polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE) as well as a line for Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) over an area of approximately 700,000 square meters.

Coperion’s scope of performance comprises the procedural planning and all connected engineering services for the complete plant as well as the delivery of machines and key components for the handling, transport and warehousing of the bulk materials. The Coperion scope of delivery consists of approximately 20 km of pipes, more than 120 rotary valves, about 280 diverter valves and 220 filters in addition to two ZSK 380 high performance extruders for compounding of the polypropylene. The engineering for the large scale project also requires about 90,000 hours.

Coperion already laid the foundations for this contract with two plants for Borouge’s polyolefin production in Ruwais which were delivered in 1999 and 2007: The high availability of those plants, the technological competence and the professional project management in the planning and construction, the mature service concept and the precise knowledge of the special requirements for extreme ambient conditions were decisive factors for this recent contract award.
