Dow Elastomers, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company, will debut two new polymers into the existing family of Affinity GA Polyolefin Elastomers (POEs) at the World Adhesive & Sealant Conference (WAC) from 18 to 21 September, 2012 in Paris, France.
These two new grades, Affinity GA 1000R and Affinity GA 1875 continue Dow’s industry leadership in developing solutions that address its customers’ evolving needs.
Affinity GA 1000R is an MAH-grafted polymer offering excellent bond strength for hard-to-bond (HTB) substrates, such as coated papers and boards or recycled paper, as well as improved heat stress – achieving between 5⁰C (41⁰F) to 10°C (50⁰F) more temperature resistance.
This helps ensure the package’s contents stay sealed through the stages of logistics, particularly warehouse storage and transportation, where temperatures can vary.
Affinity GA 1875 offers a lower viscosity choice for enhanced formulation flexibility as well as excellent bond strength in low-application temperature hot-melt adhesives (LATHMA) when used alone or in combination with other Affinity GA polymers.
“Our customers in the adhesives industry desire enhanced functionality and aesthetics in their applications. Not only are we seeing a noticeable increase in the use of hard-to-bond substrates in packaging being driven by the desire for improved appearance or for functionality, but formulators also need to provide even more customized solutions that address broad application temperature requirements and viscosity levels,” said Alastair Hill, global marketing manager for Adhesives, Dow Elastomers, “We’re building on the well known advantages of the family of Affinity GA polymers, and with Affinity GA 1000R and Affinity GA 1875 we can offer customers an enhanced portfolio that addresses these requirements.”
The entire range of Affinity GA Polyolefin Elastomers offer excellent bonding at a variety of temperatures and excellent adhesive mileage per pound.
They were the first polymers of their kind and were specifically developed for hot melt adhesive formulations and a range of polymer modification applications.
Affinity GA POEs are characterized by distinct chemistry that combines high flow, low crystallinity and low molecular weight. They offer a variety of performance advantages for hot melt adhesives such as powerful bonds, excellent sealing mileage, broad temperature range performance, exceptional color stability and virtually char- and odor-free processing.
