DSM will be at Electronica 2012 next week with important exhibits and presentations. Electronica, the world's leading trade fair for electronic components, systems and applications taking place in Munich from November 13-16, provides DSM with a great opportunity to show its latest products, and discuss new trends and innovative solutions.
The key focus on DSM’s stand, 214 in Hall B3, will be the company’s complete portfolio of halogen-free flame retardant engineering plastics, developed for a wide range of high-performance applications. This growing product family now includes three types of polyamide—Stanyl (PA46), Stanyl ForTii (PA4T) and Akulon (PA6)—as well as two types of thermoplastic polyester—Arnitel XG (thermoplastic elastomer) and Arnite XG (PBT).
The Stanyl PA46 portfolio consists of a wide range of grades, including heat stabilized and “electronically stabilized” types. Electronically stabilized grades are specially designed to prevent contact corrosion for components used in automotive environments. Stanyl is very well suited for applications requiring high-temperature resistance and/or resistance to oil. It has a long track record in such applications as gearbox connectors, ignition connectors and sealed connectors and sensors conforming to the USCAR 4 standard.
Every new car generation has more electronics and electrical circuitry than the last. DSM’s newly developed Stanyl ForTii PA4T is addressing the trend for more SMT (Surface Mount Technology) lead-free reflow components in the car. The new ForTii LDS can also be used for three-dimensional molded interconnect devices produced using Laser Direct Structuring (LDS) which enable 3-D design of electronic circuits directly on the plastic for function integration.
DSM has recently introduced several new flame retardant polyamides.
Stanyl SC50 and Stanyl MC50 provide manufacturers of connectors, sockets and electronics components with the combination of toughness and high flow traditionally associated with Stanyl polyamides together with more reliable and trouble free processability.
Stanyl ForTii F11, a 30% glass reinforced grade with a UL94 rating of V-0 at 0.2mm and is VDE approved ForTii is the best solution for SMD reflow applications like RAST 2.5 and 5 connectors for whitegood connectors and terminal blocks.
New to the Akulon range is Akulon K225-KV, for unattended appliances following the IEC 60335-1an unfilled grade with a V-2 flammability rating at 0.4 mm and robust GWT 750 on endproducts and also flexible enough to be used in hinge designs.
As well as exhibiting, DSM is also participating in the automotive forum taking place during Electronica 2012. Greg Costantino, Automotive electronics Industry segment team leader, will discuss convergence of the electrical & electronics and automotive industries —with cars literally becoming computers on wheels—in combination with trends towards greater sustainability in the market. In his presentation, “Future impact on advanced SMT interconnects in Automotive and E&E,” Costantino will talk about new challenges and opportunities, including lead-free soldering, miniaturization, the growing need for robust mechanical performance and extended lifetimes, fire safety, EMI shielding and environmental concerns.
