Double Weima Power at Remondis in Sweden

Double Weima Power at Remondis…

At the Remondis site in Röstanga, Sweden, HDPE pipes and other plastic waste from production are transformed into new raw materials using a Weima PowerLine 2500 shredder and a subsequent washing plant. Just 50 km away, a Weima S7.20 single-shaft shredder reduces large and heavy PE chunks in a Remondis recycling plant in Staffanstorp. The use of powerful Weima shredders enables effective processing of even the heaviest materials, highlighting the sustainability and efficiency of Remondis' recycling processes.

Remondis in Röstanga: The Recycling Specialist

At the Röstanga site, post-consumer HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene), including thick-walled pipes and other plastic waste, is shredded, washed, and then sold as regrind to customers who manufacture new products from it. Remondis needed a robust machine to shred the materials: "It's very heavy and large material that we shred. The demands on the shredder were high: it had to be particularly stable and weather-resistant, as it would be set up outdoors," says Per Persson, site manager in Röstanga.

The Weima PowerLine 2500 single-shaft shredder delivered. The decisive factors were its robust construction, superior machine equipment, and maintenance-friendliness. Thanks to the hydraulic inspection flap, routine maintenance-whether turning knives, optimizing the cutting gap, or removing foreign objects-is greatly simplified.

Material Throughput of Five Tons Per Hour

To shred the robust pipes to a homogeneous particle of 40 mm, the shredder is equipped with a special rotor. This rotor has a working width of 2,500 mm and a diameter of 800 mm. With the torque-strong hydraulic drive from Swedish market leader Hägglunds Bosch Rexroth, a throughput of approximately five tons per hour is achieved when shredding HDPE pipes. Additionally, a winter package for the hydraulics was supplied for the cold Swedish winter days.  After shredding, the plastic flakes are transported by conveyor belt to a bunker. In another hall, the shredded plastic is cleaned, dewatered, and packed into big bags in a washing plant. The washed plastic flakes are then sold and serve as raw material in the form of regranulate for new plastic products.

Remondis in Staffanstorp: Shredding Heavy PE Chunks

In Staffanstorp, just 50 km further south, production waste from several Remondis customers in the form of PE chunks is shredded. The challenge here is the and enormous weight of the material, up to 300 kg. Since this makes the use of a conveyor belt impossible, the large chunks are manually fed into the shredder's hopper using a crane.

For shredding in Staffanstorp, a Weima S7.20 single-shaft shredder is used. With a rotor length of 2,000 mm and a 110 kW motor, it has enough volume and power to process the hard PE chunks into 60 mm flakes. Team leader Mensur Osmani particularly highlights the shredder's maintenance-friendliness, robustness, and reliability: "We have also tried some other brands, but ultimately found that Weima best meets our requirements and the material we process."

High-Quality Regranulate at the End of the Recycling Loop

After shredding, the homogeneously shredded flakes are processed into recycled pellets using a recycling extruder. Special attention is paid to ensuring the granulate is of a single grade. To ensure this, materials are regularly tested in the in-house laboratory before recycling to reliably identify the type of plastic.

The use of Weima plastic shredders at Remondis in Röstanga and Staffanstorp shows how effective modern recycling can be. The reliability of the machine ensures continuously high operational readiness with minimal downtime for maintenance. It allows for the processing of the most demanding materials and the production of high-quality regranulate. These recycling processes return valuable raw materials to the cycle and reduce environmental impact. Remondis demonstrates that innovative technology and environmental protection can be successfully combined-and has been doing so for a long time. "We have been working with Weima for over 25 years. If someone in the plastics industry needs a shredder, I would recommend Weima, because the shredders can handle large and heavy material," concludes Mensur Osmani.
