At K 2013 S+S Separation and Sorting Technology GmbH exhibited metal detectors and separators for the plastics producing and processing industries, and a sorting system for application in plastics recycling. Christian Stadler, S+S product manager for the Plast Business Unit, summarised the show: "Our expectations for K 2013 were completely satisfied. During the eight days we welcomed more than 800 visitors and not only made many new contacts but also strengthened our existing relationships. K 2013 proved an excellent environment for further development of international relations for medium-sized companies like S+S."
The Rapid Pro-Sense metal separator had its premiere at K. A system for free-fall applications and with innovative HRF technology (High Resolution Frequency) Rapid Pro-Sense offers extremely high scanning sensitivity for all metals and is specifically designed to meet the needs of plastics and compound producers.
Despite the focus on the new system S+S did not neglect its other proven metal detectors used in plastics processing. Production efficiency and process precision are quickly compromised if metal particles block hot runners and back-stops for example in injection moulding machines. S+S metal separators protect processing machines against the damage caused by metal particles in the granulate and thus reduce machine downtimes and production losses.
A Flake Purifier sorting system was also exhibited at the show. Based on a modular concept, up to three sensors for contaminant detection can be combined in this system. Sorting systems of this type are used primarily in PET and HDPE recycling, but there is a growing demand from the field of mixed-plastics recycling. Michael Perl, Sorting Business Unit Manager at S+S, is also highly satisfied with K: "At this year's event there was a noticeably great number of visitors from South America who were interested in the Flake Purifier. Visitors already working with Flake
Purifier sorting systems confirmed their efficiency and reliability."
