Total to launch a new range of high performance insulation products. The Polymers Division of Total Refining & Chemicals will begin manufacturing a new generation of expandable polystyrene (EPS beads) products in 2013.
The formulation of the new polymer, Excell-R, was developed by teams at Total’s Research & Technology in Feluy, Belgium and offers a new solution in terms of energy efficiency.
Excell-R delivers thermal insulation characteristics significantly higher than
conventional white EPS thereby offering higher performance for foam insulation
applications.

Group’s efforts and commitment to optimize the use of energy resources,” said Carl Van Camp, Senior Vice President Polymers.
Excell-R enables Total to consolidate its market position for styrenic polymers dedicated to insulation – polystyrene for extruded polystyrene (XPS) and Excell-R for expanded polystyrene (EPS-foam).
