The aim of the European PRIME project is to develop the technology of manufacturing high performance products from the mixed plastics waste. Materials would posses excellent mechanical properties similiar to timber or aluminium and would be used as flood barriers, temporary pathways, construction as well as in automotive and aerospace industry.The products will have mixed recycled plastics core and and a reinforced skin. Environmental testing on the panels including UV, humidity, moisture and flame testing are being carried out. Further tests will compare the mechanical properties of new products with contemporary used aluminium flood panels.
PRIME is the consortium made up of the ten partners from EU countries, i.e. UK, Belgium, France and Hungary. Consortium collaborates with Research Executive Agency of European Commission and is financed by 7th Framework Programme. The project will end in June.
