SABIC to be Honored with Two Awards for Best Material Ingenuity and Best Stand Design at Plastpol

SABIC to be Honored with Two… At PLASTPOL 2012, Poland’s largest international plastics and rubber processing exhibition, SABIC became the first company in the event’s 16-year history to win two awards, highlighting the company’s culture of ingenuity and history of successful innovation. Specifically, SABIC received the coveted Best Material Ingenuity award for its globally renowned Valox iQ resin, which promotes sustainability by incorporating up-cycled post-consumer polyethylene terephthalate (PET) water bottles. In addition, the company’s impressive, two-story, 130-square-meter exhibit (stand E-7) was honored with Best Stand Design. These prestigious awards underscore SABIC’s focus on continuously challenging the status quo with better ways to serve its customers around the world.

SABIC’s Valox iQ resin and its PLASTPOL stand were chosen from a field of 708 exhibitors from 32 countries that showcased their latest developments in machinery and material technology during the event, which took place in Kielce, Poland, from May 29 to June 1. Henryk Zawistowski, a member of the judging panel, commented on SABIC’s achievement: “This is the first time that PLASTPOL has presented two awards to the same company. This is indeed a unique and remarkable accomplishment for which we congratulate SABIC.”

With an exhibit theme of SUSTAINABILITY + PERFORMANCE, SABIC displayed material solutions from its broad portfolio of polyolefins and engineering thermoplastics resins. According to Piotr Kwiecien, SABIC’s country leader for Poland, “The awards clearly reinforce the depth and breadth of our materials and the scope of our innovative design, application development and technical services and how SABIC powers the long term competitive advantage of each of our customers with bar-raising solutions.”

Valox iQ Resin Helps Reduce Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Emissions and Energy Use

Valox iQ resin is based on polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) that incorporates post-consumer PET feedstock, converting products whose useful life was measured in weeks into an engineering resin that may be an excellent candidate for durable, long-lasting applications. Valox iQ resin helps to divert waste from landfills, and provides up to a 49 percent reduction in both CO2 emissions and process energy utilization per kilogram of PBT. Another promising environmental advantage of Valox iQ resin is molded-in color capability to replace secondary painting that can add cost and pose an environmental hazard from volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions. The resin is widely used for electronics and automotive applications, and can be converted to soft yet resilient monofilaments, staple fibers and continuous filament yarns for woven and nonwoven fabrics.

The SABIC stand was designed by Tausch in The Netherlands and built by AA Kombiko in Poland.
