Sacmi slashes press line waste to zero

Sacmi slashes press line waste… Automatic hydraulic pump shutdown system soon to be installed on all Sacmi presses.

A ceramic plant continues to consume energy even when production lines are at standstill. For example, the on-press hydraulic pump motor continues to run even when the line stops, consuming 20% of the total energy used by the same pump during production, thus wasting energy worth thousands of Euros a year.

This is why Sacmi has decided to provide the market with an innovation that will be applied throughout the PH press range, specially designed to eliminate this type of waste while, at the same time, allowing a rapid line restart. The restart can be fully automatic, although allowing the operator to personalise settings for the ‘transitory’ time between shutdown and restart. In practice, when the line is at standstill, the control system also shuts down the pump – after, if necessary, a certain settable time – while, when the line restarts, the electronic system reactivates the pump in just a few minutes.

Already installed as standard on much of the PH range, this innovation will soon be fitted on all new Sacmi-made presses. This is something the market has never seen before, especially as regards the speed and efficiency of the restart process. Initial testing by some ceramic producers has seen this Sacmi-developed innovation provide several customers with significant annual savings in terms of lower electricity consumption on each production line.

Of course, the more the cost of electricity weighs on the company balance sheet, the greater the relevance of such an innovation: and that’s without even factoring in the environmental benefits of waste reduction. It’s also an essential innovation for the Italian and, more generally, European markets, where lines rarely operate at 100%; an innovation, then, made to measure for “mature”, markets where saving energy is – together with the need to make production lines more flexible – right at the top of every ceramic producer’s priory list.
