Ticona announced the availability of Hostaform MT (medical technology) 8U05, a UV-detectable acetal copolymer (POM) for enhanced quality control in the production of complex medical devices.
Helps Reduce Reject Rate - Hostaform MT (medical technology) 8U05 from Ticona is aUV-detectable acetal copolymer (POM) for enhanced quality control in the production of complex medical devices. - Hostaform MT 8U05 contains a special additive that enables easy, reliable inspection of components with ultraviolet (UV) light - said Deven Patel, Ticona medical marketing manager.
During the assembly of complex devices, such as dry powder inhalers or other pharmaceutical dosing system, optical UV sensors are used to help determine whether all components are present and also properly installed.
Now manufacturers can use Hostaform MT8U05 to considerably reduce the reject rate of final products, which will minimize production costs and raising capacity - Patel said. - Manufacturers can also use this UV-detectable polymer from Ticona in original equipment components to uncover counterfeit products.
The new Hostaform grade complies with the requirements of healthcare authorities, including those of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and of the European Union relative to food compatibility. In addition, an FDA Drug Master File and an FDA Device Master File exist for this product; such files are required for medical and pharmaceutical applications. Hostaform MT grades are biocompatible in accordance with the requirements of the U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP Class VI) and of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO 10993).
As with all MT grades from Ticona, the new UV-detectable variant is produced in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice. This ensures high purity and a reliable long-term supply of the identical composition as well as traceability of the raw materials and additives used.
