"Tapping on PET Conversions in the Next Frontier African Markets"
The PET packaging revolution is sweeping across Africa while the global PET chain continues to deal with surplus capacities and low margins. Demand for packaged water combined with rising consumer incomes are driving the PET demand across the sub-Saharan African region. Kenya, a key East African hub is an attractive market with large concentration of PET converters and preform production; whilst West Africa is a promising region with growth driven largely by the Nigerian market. Indorama's first PET resin plant in Nigeria and continuous expansion has created a more competitive environment for resin distribution within the ECOWAS markets. A steady consumption growth in South Africa is also driving packaging innovations and sustainability in this relatively matured market. PET is also taking precedence to replace traditional pack formats and being used for applications such as beer and alcoholic beverages in key African markets like Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa. With so much diversity from one region to the other, what are the upstream dynamics, cost components and consumption analysis of Africa's PET industry?
CMT's inaugural Africa PET is a vital event for the global PET supply chain to identify and explore opportunities in fast emerging key African markets.
