BW Packaging, a global leader in packaging machinery, today announced new climate targets. Among these goals is a commitment to reduce its scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2030, using 2021 as its baseline year. These targets represent a major milestone in BW Packaging’s sustainability journey, guided by its vision of “People Who Care. Solutions That Perform.”
“Sustainability is critical to building a better world for future generations, and BW Packaging has a responsibility to reduce our environmental impact,” said Rachana Creeth, Group President, BW Packaging. “With these new goals, we are holding ourselves accountable to take meaningful action to combat climate change.”
To achieve its emissions reduction target for 2030 and future goals, BW Packaging will explore various opportunities to improve its manufacturing footprint. These initiatives include renewable power procurement, LED lighting retrofits, optimized HVAC controls, operations settings management, destratification fan installation and more.
“BW Packaging's sustainability commitment is deeply rooted in our guiding principle of measuring success by the way we touch people’s lives,” said Michelle Bryson, Global Sustainable Packaging Leader. “We aim to use business as a force for good in the world, and as such, we are collaborating with partners across the value chain to ensure solutions are implemented in beneficial ways for our customers, team members and the communities we serve.”
Since identifying sustainability as a strategic priority in 2021, BW Packaging has made significant strides in several areas, including conducting extensive research, developing training programs, reporting progress through CDP and EcoVadis frameworks, and pursuing profitable business wins through sustainability-focused innovation. In total, BW Packaging’s sustainability strategy encompasses four focus areas, which are key in advancing sustainability in the packaging industry: energy-efficient equipment, responsible materials enablement, a sustainable manufacturing footprint and cultivating a culture of sustainability.
“We've laid a strong foundation, and now we are accelerating our efforts with specific, measurable targets to drive improvement,” said Creeth. “In the months ahead, our teams around the world will align on roadmap plans to ensure we deliver on this critical commitment.”
