Borealis meets customer demand with relaunched healthcare solutions

Borealis meets customer demand… Borealis, a leading provider of innovative, value creating plastics solutions, starts to re-launch its Bormed LD PE range for blow, fill and seal products in response to customers demand for continued availability of the high-performance grades.

Bormed LE6607-PH, the first in the BFS series, will be showcased to Pharmapack 2009 visitors in January following commencement of its production at a new location – Borealis’ LDPE plant in Porvoo, Finland – just one year after the sales of the company’s LDPE plant in Bamble, Norway.

Borealis withdrew its LDPE for healthcare applications following the sale of its Bamble plant in September 2007. However, the composition of the various Bormed LDPE grades and their grade names remained the property of Borealis.

- With secure supply of consistent, high quality materials being a top priority for moulders and OEMs in the healthcare sector, many of our customers were unhappy about losing not only our materials but also the on-going support we provided to them - comments Martyna Matelska-Jucha, Application Marketing Manager Borealis. - Given the strength of demand and our commitment to delivering products that add real value to the healthcare market, we have worked hard to ensure a new production solution that is proving a success with our customers. We are looking forward to re-introducing more of our previous grades to offer a full package for BFS applications.

Bormed LE6607-PH is suitable for the blow moulding of soft and flexible bottles and ampoules for pharmaceutical products. It can also be used for injection moulding and film blowing. Products made from Bormed LE6607-PH can be sterilised using ethylene oxide, gamma radiation, electron beam radiation or steam. Steam sterilisation up to 110°C can be achieved.

All Bormed products have a registered Drug Master File (DMF) at the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and comply with the European Pharmacopoeia (EP) and/or the US Pharmacopoeia.
