Huge imports in Algerian packaging… The statistics of the German Engineering Federation, VDMA show that in 2009 an import volume of Euro 190 million was generated by the Algerian sector for packaging and printing machinery and equipment. Under this environmental effect fairtrade Messe, Germany organises Algeria’s 3rd International Printing and Packaging Technology Trade Fair. printpack alger will be held at the Palais des Expositions - Safex, in Algiers from May 10-12, 2011.

According to the numbers of VDMA the printing and packaging sector represents a growth sector in Algeria. Due to the economic upswing, the growing population’s disposable income is rising - and that in turn pushes the demand for printing and packaging machinery and packaging materials. As well the second national investment programme between 2010 and 2014, worth US$ 150 billion, actuates a further boost to the publishing, manufacturing and food processing sector, and therefore to the printing and packaging industry. The Algerian packaging sector is still at a steady growth, since 2007 the export volume increased from 92 million to 132.9 million US $.

P.H. Gerbert, managing director of Saga reported, that printpack alger in 2010 was a very successful event to meet new clients and conclude business deals straight away on the stand and strengthen their brand towards existing clients and the overall Algerian market. Regarding 2011, M. Maerz, managing director of fairtrade Messe, expects printpack to be again an excellent opportunity for exhibitors to demonstrate their cutting-edge solutions to a professional audience from all over Algeria.

Christian Deufert, manager at the German exhibitor Windmöller & Hölscher, was impressed by the outcome of the event: “Because of the business opportunities initiated on the Algerian growth market, printpack alger 2010 has been a resounding success for us. We have sold some printing and extrusion machines. Our target now is to grow even stronger in the market and become the market leader in Algeria.”
