Major investments strengthen Polykemi Group's global laboratory

Major investments strengthen…

Investments pave the way for global standards

Polykemi has invested nearly one million euros in around 70 new test specimen tools and injection molding machines for its laboratories, marking a significant step in the company’s ambition to continually elevate its global standards and testing capabilities.

“We have made these investments over a six-year period with the goal of consistently delivering high and uniform quality in our material testing across all laboratories at our five facilities. The investments were a natural next step after opening two new production sites in China and the USA,” says Jörgen Olsson, Technical Manager - Plastic Applications & Processing Specialist at Polykemi.

Identical testing processes in Sweden, China, and the USA

Since 2018, Polykemi has been evaluating and testing the specimen tools to ensure they meet the company's high-quality standards. The new tools, which comply with current ISO norms, enable identical testing of specimens at the company’s laboratories in Sweden, China, and the USA.

“Both the test specimens and equipment are identical at our five facilities. We conduct an annual cross-calibration to ensure we achieve the same values for the same tests globally. This provides a high level of security for us and a solid guarantee for our customers,” says Karsten Vang, Laboratory Technician at Polykemi.

Goal achieved through successful collaboration

The new injection molding machines, with clamping forces ranging from 50 to 150 tons, are from Arburg, and the specimen tools come from the German company wf plastic GmbH. During the process, Polykemi collaborated with wf plastic, which not only enabled a collection of high-quality testing tools but also met customer requirements for specific specimen properties.

“wf plastics' expertise and flexibility made it possible for us to create specimen tools for both our internal quality controls and customer-specific test specimens. This collaboration has been a major part of building a global laboratory stationed on three continents,” says Jörgen Olsson.

Future innovations and testing

With the new specimen tools and enhanced global testing capacity, quality assurance has been further elevated, positioning Polykemi to successfully deliver customized, high-quality plastic compounds in the global market.
