International kitchenware manufacturer Mastrad utilizes the combination of heat resistance, clarity and dishwasher durability of Eastman Tritan copolyester for the multi-level steam cooker.
A new-generation copolyester, Tritan provides housewares manufacturers like Mastrad with a balance of toughness, and heat and chemical resistance. Tritan also is free of bisphenol A (BPA).
The Mastrad multi-level steam cooker allows users to rinse, steam, serve, store and reheat food items in one versatile product. The steam cooker includes a stackable steaming tray and bowl made with Eastman Tritan copolyester and a steamer lid and colander made with silicone. The stackable tray and bowl, made with Tritan, steam food in the microwave and enable multiple food items to be cooked at the same time. For steaming on the stove top, the silicone lid and colander can be used without the tray and bowl. After steaming, the tray and bowl can be used to strain and rinse cooked items, and the bowl can be used to store leftover food.
“Cooking foods like meat, seafood, vegetables and rice by steaming is a popular, healthy method of food preparation,” said Nicolas Bertolino, research and development, quality and manufacturing manager, Mastrad. “Utilizing Eastman Tritan copolyester for the multi-level steam cooker helps us further meet the demands of health- and safety-conscious customers by providing a product that is BPA-free.”
In addition to providing customers with a BPA-free alternative, Mastrad switched production of the multi-level steam cooker from polycarbonate to Eastman Tritan copolyester due to the material’s heat and chemical resistance, which makes it suitable for the temperatures reached during the steaming process in the microwave, as well as for use in dishwashers. In addition, the clarity and durability of Tritan help create an aesthetically appealing and long-lasting product.
“Selecting Eastman Tritan copolyester proved to meet our aesthetic, functional and manufacturing needs,” Bertolino said. “The ease of manufacturing, combined with the reduced processing time and cost savings achieved by eliminating the annealing step, due to the lower residual stress of Tritan, helped us bring a differentiated product to our customers.”
The multi-level steam cooker is produced in three colors - red, green and black - and is available at specialty and retail stores and online.
