At K 2013 KraussMaffei presented its newest solutions under the motto "Trendgineering", which was using to indicate the innovative character of presentation and underline its role in shaping the future of the industry. The company focused especially on the lightweight construction for automotive industry, manufacturing thick-walled packaging products and innovations for applications in multicomponent technology.
One of the novelties presented in Düsseldorf was GX 900 injection molding machine, dedicated to produce large elements, e.g. for transport industry. The demonstration machine has been enhanced with a fully automatic mold-changing system, which is particularly well suited to producing small batches of parts using molds that need to be changed frequently. Molds can be changed in less than three minutes. For demonstration purposes during the trade show, two different transport crates were made on the same machine. One was made using a shot weight of 380 g in a cycle time of roughly ten seconds, while the other was made using a shot weight of 341 g in a cycle time of approximately seven seconds.
Other worth noting presentation of KraussMaffei was RTM technology for carbon-fiber reinforced composite materials. During a live demonstration, a production cell produced carbon fiber-reinforced series components with a polyurethane (PUR) matrix for a sports car. Important aspect of this solution is that the components come out of the mold with a paintable surface. Additionally, the cycle time is very short - one step operation takes only 7 min.
The world debut made also the AX 130-750 CellForm, which uses a new MuCell system to produce washing machine covers that weigh 35 percent less than conventional ones. Dynamic mold heat-balancing system allows to reach premium quality surface. Using all-electric machine makes manufacturing process energy-efficient.
