Polyethylene market overview - February 2025

Polyethylene market overview…

Market participants assessed that the polyethylene demand will slow down by the end of the month. The announced order stoppages for this material as well as production overhauls further limited the number of transactions. LDPE producers, planning a price increase in March, had already closed their order books early this month. It is expected that LDPE prices might rise by another €20-30/t by end-February. HDPE and LLDPE supply has been sufficient to meet converters' demand. Compared to H1 January 2025, the commodity prices increased in February. HDPE injection-moulding quotes rose by €20-30/t, HDPE blow-moulding by  €40-50/t, and HDPE film by  €30/t. LDPE film recorded the largest appreciation of  €100-110/t, while LLDPE C4 has got  €20/t more expensive.

  • HDPE and LLDPE demand remained moderately high in H1 February.
  • Uzbek material has been still available on the market.
  • The availability of both imported and European material did not allow HDPE prices to rise by more than €50/t, as was expected by producers;
  • LDPE demand stayed strong, and producers, anticipating further price increases in March, announced a suspension of new orders.
  • As a result, LDPE shortages were observed, particularly for grades with MFI=0.3.
  • According to market participants, no LLDPE shortages were reported in H1 February.
