The annual awards recognize organic and natural industry achievements and innovations in packaging. Directed by the projects three guidelines: Transparency, Ecological Principles, and Extended Producer Responsibility. The awards recognize brands for materials reduction, use of 100% post-consumer recycled material, non-GMO bio materials, compostability, 3rd party certified packaging, packaging that is returnable for reuse and easily recycled or reused by the end user.The Responsible Packaging Project is a non-profit collaboration of the Sustainable Food Trade Association, Independent Natural Foods Retailers Association, National Cooperative Grocers Association, Organic Trade Association, United Natural Foods, Inc. and Whole Foods Market’s Green Mission.

The next round of awards will occur in February 2013 at the Organicology Conference in Portland, OR. A call for nominations will be announced in December 2012.
