Rhodia announces that it recently finalized, a few days ahead of schedule, the registration of its 74 substances concerned by the first tonnage band. Meeting this deadline involved approximately 80 people within the Group and represents an estimated investment of 12 million euros.
“By providing better information about chemicals, this regulation should help the chemical industry to win back the confidence of consumers. The regulation has also enabled us to improve our understanding of each individual step of our product supply chain and to strengthen our relationships both with our suppliers and with our customers. In Rhodia, we view REACH as a business opportunity and as a catalyst for innovation,” explained Jean-Luc Ponchon, REACH Project Manager in Rhodia.
Building on its commitment to ensure product safety, Rhodia has supported REACH since its inception and the Group rapidly set up the organization it needed to meet the different deadlines imposed by the regulation. The Group pre-registered 736 substances in November 2008 and is already fully prepared for the subsequent deadlines: the registration of approximately 130 substances imported or produced in volumes ranging from 100 to 1,000 metric tons per annum by June 1, 2013, and approximately 500 substances ranging from 1 to 100 metric tons per annum by June 1, June 2018.
