P.E.T. Engineering consolidates its experience in the design of ultra-lightweight containers with high performance and aesthetic value, with SWERVE NECK, a patented solution that allows savings up to 20% in the neck finish and in the area under the support ledge.
P.E.T. Engineering, aware of the importance of preserving the environment and eager to meet the needs of bottlers who want to reduce production costs related to raw materials, has been applying, for a long time, light-weighting solutions to its containers, reducing weight on each area of the bottle.
The traditional ways to obtain ultra-lightweight containers usually involve the preform and the bottle design or the implementation of lightweight neck finishes. The R&D dept. of P.E.T. Engineering has focused its attention also on the area under the support ledge after having identified this area and the neck finish as the ones where we can find the biggest accumulation of material.
The patented solution called SWERVE NECK by P.E.T. Engineering, which can be used in all the existing neck finishes, allows the lightening of both zones without compromising their behavior during the blowing, filling, capping processes and during transport and final use.
SWERVE NECK creates an inner ring between the neck finish and the area under the support ledge that leads two important advantages:
1. The patented geometry allows less accumulation of material in the area under the support ledge keeping it at a distance from the mold sufficient to prevent its cooling. This plastic remains at such a temperature that can be still stretchable, that is to say, distributed on the body of the bottle, transforming the material from amorphous and unused into a structuring one;
2. The stiffness of the ring into the neck finish allows a further reduction of the thickness without compromising the performance of the container which, indeed, improving its vertical top load.
The SWERVE NECK solution has already been used by Sanpellegrino for the production of the Levissima half a liter size, blown with the 22% of PET, which is less than the one used in the previous bottle of the same size.
P.E.T. Engineering was responsible for the preform project, for the container design and for its industrialization, reinforcing the bottle by introducing an innovative technical solution that can turn the container into an added value, not just for the historical brand owned by Sanpellegrino, but also for its consumers.
The company, according to its customers, confirms to be a one-stop shop for all the needs related to beverage packaging.
